My general topic that I chose is “Effective Family
Engagement”. The reason I chose this
topic is because as we all know a child’s first teachers are their parents. When
parents become engaged it shows that they are committed to their child’s
education and more than likely they make sure that their child is completing
assignments, attending school, and parents feel more comfortable volunteering. Families
and schools that work together create children that are successful learners.
Out of the 22 students in my classroom I noticed about 4-5
parents who do not show much interest in what’s going in the classroom. I have
come to think that maybe there are some reasons for their actions. The subtopic
I chose to focus more on is “Ways to Help Families Overcome Barriers to Become
Engaged”. Getting families to become involved may be difficult but there may be
some families that are facing difficulties or barriers that are enabling them
from being involved such as different educational views, language barriers, or
not feeling welcomed. I think that my findings on this topic can be very
beneficial to me professionally.
Hi! Erika, the topic you chose is an important factor in early childhood education and education in general. As teachers, we understand how much differences it makes when parents are engaged in school. I wish you all the best and would like to follow up with your research study.
ReplyDeleteErika, I find it increasingly intriguing that you've noticed which family members are more involved than others and you've figured out ways to get them to be more involved in what's happening with their children. I believe that these relationships between provider-parents are extremely important. Great post!
ReplyDeleteHi Erika,
ReplyDeleteWOW! Great topic..... this is very important. The world that we live in doesn't give any room for family engagement anymore. I would like to know the topic significant factors for this elimination in our society. Interesting!! Looking forward to hearing more.

Erika,
ReplyDeleteYour topic is a very important topic that I believe is becoming more widely discussed within this field. Educators are beginning to realize that the learning doesn't stop at the classroom door...it continues and can be severely marred if teachers and parents don't partner together. I'm excited to see what best practices you find through your research. I'm sure we all could benefit from what you find.
